Here's my review of the Half Blood Prince
I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!! LOVED LOVED LOVED!!!
Things I liked --
Okay, so I thought the fact that Helen McCrory (sp?) didn't look how I thought Narcissa should look would bother me, however, I loved like the whole three minutes of her that were in the film. Her hair still REALLY bothers me, I mean, the woman is BLOND!, but I thought she really conveyed the worry that a mother has for their child.
The comedy bits were AWESOME!! Not even Rupert, really, but everyone else was great at this. Luna is always good for a laugh, as is Neville, but I love that at one point, the three main characters all were a bit snockered! The Liquid Luck made Harry act all drunk and when he was talking about Aragog's chompers and doing an imitation, I was laughing so hard! And then Emma, coming out of the three broomsticks, had a lovey, drunkish Hermione. And then Ron on the love potion was great.
Helena Bonham Carter plays a batshit crazy Bellatrix! I mean, I'm not sure anyone else could play that part as well.
Things I loved--
Alan Rickman finally had something else to do besides brood! His little clipped sentences conveyed so much. I love the scene on the tower before Dumbledore and Harry aparate away where Snape tells him that he sometimes asks too much. Powerful in so little words.
Harry -- In general, I'm a Harry supporter because the books are about him. But I think that Dan did a really great job of bringing out all the nuances of Harry to life. He was really able to do the comedy well, which he hasn't been able to do really, and he really delivered on the emotional aspect of it all.
Lavender -- I mean, when ole girl was in the Great Hall after her relationship with Ron ended, and she's just FUMING, I was like GAH! How many times have I seen THAT look before?! It was great!
Things I don't understand--
I have to wonder if they made the burrow be destroyed instead of the sacking of Hogwarts because of the rating. Like, if they were pressured to change it because of that. I really think that the burrow being destroyed doesn't really...I think the sacking of Hogwarts would have been a bigger deal than the burrow being destroyed and I would really like to understand why this happened. I'm not saying I don't like it, but I'm just curious why it was changed.
Harry and Hermione's friendship is also one of my favorite parts. Especially after she sees Ron kissing Lavender and Harry goes out to comfort her. And she asks him what it feels like when he sees Ginny with Dean, then sicks the canaries on Ron, and she starts crying again, and Harry tells her that it feels just like that. Love it.
FAVORITE PART!!!
DRACO! Oh my love! Tom Felton, you were absolutely amazing! The best part of this film. From the beginning with them on the train talking and he kicks Harry in the face (which I am very happy they kept because up until now, Draco hasn't really been an action sort of guy) and the fact that he was the first to attack Harry shows the first signs of change. Getting the glimpses of Draco working through the cabinet, trying to get it to work, were awesome. And then the bathroom scene after he sees Katie Bell back...just the frustration and the weariness that he's going through is so clear. When the Death Eaters came into the school, the fear of what he had accomplished crossed his face, and knowing that he would now have to carry out the other part of the task, was so well done. But the best was on the tower. The fear, sadness, and utter anguish on his face, the hollow look to his eyes, was so well done. And then, as Bellatrix destroyed the Great Hall, and Draco looks back at it, you can see the regret on his face, like he realizes that he did something horrible and it destroyed the world that he was used to.
I really loved this movie. I mean, it was great. Aside from the romances, which, I don't like the canon pairings so I pretend it doesn't happen and that Draco and Hermione are really getting it on behind the scenes, it was just amazing! It's so great. From the lighting to the little details of every scene it was great. There wasn't really a part I didn't like, which I have never said before about a HP film. I hope to see it again tonight if they aren't sold out!
