Okay, so I was listening to the radio this morning and they were talking about how women were the first ones to turn on other women. That we don't look for women to be elevated to a position of power, but look for ways to tear her down.
And I think that has some merit. First example, Dancing with the Stars. The show was on 6 seasons before a woman won again. Not just any woman, but Kristi Yamaguchi who won the hearts of Americans when she won a gold medal for the Olympics. But if you look at all the previous seasons, women were always so close. Stacey Keibler, one of the best dancers to be on the show, Layla Ali, not my favorite but she was good. Mel B and Sabrina, both excellent dancers and one of them should have won. But in watching Sabrina dance, I couldn't help but notice the contempt my mom had for her and she'd never even heard of her before that show. I mean, she would almost seethe when she came on to dance. Why?
Stars in general are a good example. You can name an actress go up to twenty women and mention her name and you'll have at least 5 call her a slut or something. And do we really know how they are? No. But as women we're harder on our own sex than men.
But it seems to me that in order to hide our own insecurities about ourselves that we have to do anything we can to bring down someone else. We can't let anyone feel that some other woman is better than we are, so even if we have nothing to complain about, we'll make something up. "OH her voice annoys me," "Oh she wears ugly shoes" "Oh I don't like the way her arm fat jiggles when she walks". I mean, if you think about it, all of us are guilty of it at one point. There is at least one woman that we have a dislike for and we can't really give you a reason why.
When it comes to stars, mine is Scarlett JoHansssen. I just...she makes my blood boil for some reason and I've never seen her in a movie.
