I would just like to rave about one of my favorite fics.
Dragon's Bride
You know, I find myself checking Contra Veritas daily for an update. And I'm not kidding. I check it at least once a day. The writing is so amazing that with just a little bit of detail I manage to get completely swept up in the story. And these latest chapters, you really feel both of their pain. On the one hand you feel badly for Hermione for being left behind and getting her heartbroken. On the other, you feel badly for Draco knowing that what he'd been through in the last five years had changed him and made him able to accept the love she had to offer. Only now, Hermione is being cautious about giving herself to him again, and Draco is...well, he's Draco. :)
I also love the added depth to the story with Pansy, Goyle, Harry, and Ginny. I love in fics when they mix the romance with the adventure of the HP world. This one is just genius because there's this whole other demension of Pansy and Goyle's relationship, that he wanted to be with her for years, but now they've found a way that currently works for them both. I worry about someone figuring it all out. Harry is his usual kick ass self. I know a lot of people that are really down Harry, but first and foremost I am a fan of Harry Potter. He doesn't always do the right thing, but his heart is almost always in the right place. I have really enjoyed reading about the way the relationships have developed.
And while some people may hoot and hollar about Hermione having a new bf since Draco was gone for five years, I think it's a little unreasonable for her not to have tried to move on. I don't like it, but I understand it. Draco abandoned her after, in her mind, promising that he wouldn't leave without saying goodbye. Draco knows, I know, you know that was just not going to happen. She never would have let him leave, and I think his feelings for her would have kept him there and eventually their entire relationship would have dissolved. He realized his faults and I think watching Hermione die did more to help him grow and realize exactly what he had to do than staying ever could have.
So, in a word, I love it. I have no complaints about this one at all. I could be like some other people and complain about how long it takes between updates, but I take WAAAAAY longer than she does. I'm usually between 6 or 9 months between updates. I'm working on it though. But this one is just so good I don't mind the waiting. It truly, and without a doubt, is my favorite.
Now, if you're reading this going, well, I thought she liked mine, keep in mind that I probably do. I'm so picky about what it is I read that if I even read yours then I like you as an author and your fic ideas. And do you know how you know if I read it? I always leave comments. I would have to say that of all the D/Hr fics out there, I probably have only read like 1%. I'm that picky.
I have no idea where this post is going...but yeah. Here it is.
I love The Dragon's Bride. End of story.
