Luna cocked her head to the side as she examined the mistletoe that her roommate had hung from the ceiling. Her wide eyes pondered the many uses of the plant and worried that some unforeseen creature could venture into their flat and cause havoc on this most special of days. She kept this to herself as she realized her flat-mate probably had no idea of the possibility. She felt it was best to keep on her guard, though, and alert Ginny of the first sign of trouble.

She entered the adjoining room, where their tree was set up in the corner and her friend was hanging tinsel that shimmered in the low light of the room. The red-head turned and smiled at her. “What do you think?” she asked as she stepped back from the tree.

Luna tilted her head and examined it closely. “Lovely. I only hope that wangdoodles see fit to stay away from it.”

Ginny chanced a glance at her friend before she turned back to the tree. “I think it will be safe. As you know, the wangdoodle only comes out every third year.”

Luna nodded seriously. “Quite right. I forgot about that.”

Ginny turned back to the tree and smiled to herself. “What time is it?”

Luna looked at her watch and smiled. “Half past six. They should be arriving any minute.”

She nodded as Luna moved next to her. “They should be arriving soon.”

“They should. You could become a sentinel beneath the door so when he walks in you can kiss him immediately.”

Ginny looked over at her friend. “What do you mean?”

“The mistletoe is for Harry.”

She turned a bit red and sighed. “Is it to obvious?”

She was silent for a moment, then smiled and shook her head. “I think for someone like Harry you need to be obvious. It’s all he understands.”

Ginny seemed to be calmed by this and looked to Luna as someone knocked at the door. “They’re here.”

“Mmmm, we should ask them a secret question so we know it’s really them and not someone trying to trick us.”

“And what would you have us ask them?”

“What color is a wangdoodle?”

Ginny tilted her head. “Luna, we can’t ask them that…” but before she could finish the sentence Luna was gone and had cracked the door to ask a shivering Neville the question. “Uh….purple?” he answered.

She smiled dreamily and allowed him inside. “Very good, Neville, because the wangdoodle can be any color.”

Neville placed a kiss on her cheek. “Always interesting around here,” he said giving a slight smile to Ginny.

“Yes, always,” she agreed as a black head appeared behind Neville.

“Neville, move, I’m freezing out here,” came the all too familiar voice of Harry.

“Stop, Harry. What color is the wangdoodle?”

He was silent as he stared at Luna and wrinkled his nose. “It’s going to be blue if Neville doesn’t move,” he said softly and Luna allowed him inside then closed the door.

“Neville, let me help you with your coat. Harry, go see Ginny so she can collect your things.”

Neville looked down at the blonde as Harry made his way to Ginny and began pulling off his outer wear and handing it to Ginny, unbeknownst to him that he was standing under the mistletoe, and Neville gave up a whistle to Harry. “Look at that, mate. Guess you owe her a…”

His sentence was cut off as Ginny dropped everything that was handed to her, wrapped her arms around his neck, and was kissing him. Neville looked to Luna who smiled serenely. “This is going to be a happy Christmas.”
