ashleyfanficI'm gonna offend people with this post, and I can't say I actually care.
I don't know what my f-lists religious preference is, but let me ask people this. I'm sure I have Athiests on my F-list, so I'm posing this question to you. What is it about people who value religion that offends you? You realize that by claiming to be an Athiest that you're becoming involved in a religion, right? But that's not my point. My point is why are you so offended by people believing in God, Allah, or whoever?
You can claim that wars have been fought over religion, but some wars are fought because some crazy person gets into power (i.e. Hitler, Stalin, Kahn). You don't really have a leg to stand on with that one. But I take issue with those that would try to destroy the belief that people have that gives them hope. Who the hell are you to crush someone's hopes?! Where is it your place to try and dissuade someone from believing? So, they try to sway you, that's your excuse? But if that's the case then in the end they're trying to give you something that brings hope to the world. If you ask me, your view of the world is depressing and empty. Why would I want to believe that there is nothing better? Why would I want to throw my belief into something that leaves people bitter and dissatisfied with life? And if they weren't bitter or dissatisfied, why the need to try and change the beliefs of those who are followers of a religion?
I believe that everyone has the right to believe what they want, that in the end they will pay the price for it. To me, there are so many miracles that happen in this world that it never occurred to me not to believe. It's part of who I am. I'm a Christian and with that comes with certain understandings that there is something out there greater for me, that there is someone out there that loves me unconditionally, no matter the crime, and would forgive me if I was sorry. The love and sacrafice that Jesus showed for us is beautiful. Whether you believe it or not, it's beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.
So, yes, it offends me when people try to taint something like Christmas. It's a joyous holiday and people want to rub their filth over it and destroy it for those that it actually means something to. It's become very commercialized, I realize that, but the underlying reason for the holiday is lovely, inspirational, and full of hope. How can you be so cold to try and take that hope away?
