Well, in the 80's I feel like it was New Kids on the Block, Debbie Gibson, and Tiffany. They ruled the roost until Grunge came along (and in a lot of aspects, to me, ruined music). In the early 90's pop was Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. In the late 90's the Backstreet Boys came onto the scene and they, along with N'Sync, Brittney Spears, and Christina Aguilera became the center of Pop. N'Sync, I think, can be argued as the biggest one at the time as they sold over 250,000 CDs in one day with the release of No Strings Attached and 2.5 million that first week.
Now, I think Pop Music is your Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana and your Jonas Brothers. It's gone away from over produced boy bands to kids that play their own instruments and write their own songs. It's ever changing and always evolving. I love pop music!
