Okie, semi-politcal/religion under the cut
As some of you know, I'm Catholic, and converting to being Orthodox to be the Godmother of my nephew. I did a long study on the Byzatine Religion and how it was formed for my Senior Seminar two years ago. I take religion pretty seriously. I don't, however, think that people should force their beliefs on one another. Being a Catholic, we're supposed to try, but I think back on myself and I wouldn't want anyone pressuring me to not only change my mind, but change my beliefs!
With that in mind, I was reading reviews at IMDB about American Carol (cause it looks funny) and in one of the comments, someone posted that Jesus was a liberal. If you want to think that, it's fine. I don't have a problem with it. However, I did have a problem that after someone rebuffed him on his comment and gave reasons they didn't think that was true they said "I don't care what you say. I don't believe in God anyway." Now, it was the same person that posted the orginal Jesus was a liberal comment.
So, explain to me how it is you can use Jesus, who is taken very seriously by those who believes that he not only existed but was the Messiah, and then you denounce his existance and your belief in his existance? I find it offensive. Why is it that he's only there for your convience when you're going to show the big bad Conservatives that their boy, Jesus, wasn't like them? It's insulting to me. If you don't believe, that's you business, and I suppose that in the end you'll have to deal with the fallout of your non-belief. But don't criticize me for mine. Don't trivialize something that is so incredibly important to others.
And if people ever ask me how is it that I can believe in God, it's not even a question to me. The simple fact is that I believe. When things start going bad, I simply think to myself that God will take care of us, but we have to help ourselves at the same time. I love God. But you have to understand where I'm coming from.
Let me tell you a story. About three years ago, my parents spent every dime they had to try and give us a good Christmas. I believe I got like one thing from them that year because they were so strapped for cash. Anyway, we were in church and I went to the bathroom and this lady and her ten or eleven year old daughter were standing in the hall. I came out of the bathroom to see one of the men in our church turn her away. Well, she stopped me and asked if she had any money, that she and her daughter had just moved into a house that day and didn't have electricty yet and needed some money to buy firewood so they could stay warm that night. I told her I didn't have any money, but I told her to wait a moment and went and got my dad. He talked to her for a few minutes and he gave her the last fifteen dollars he had. So, he told us after church that he gave her all the money he had. I told them then that God will take care of us, as they were worried about how we were going to eat the rest of the week, as we were out of food. So, the next day, Christmas, we drive to Birmingham and have dinner with my dad's family. My parents are still concerned about how they were going to live another week with no money. My grandfather, to the surprise of everyone, pulls a stack of envelopes out of his back pocket and passes them out. My brothers and I got one, and my parents each got one. When we opened them there was a hundred dollars each in my parents and fifty in mine and the boys. My dad, mom, and I each started crying. God had taken care of us.
